The BlackSmithSoft team recently had a new challenge to solve for a BlackSmithSoft DC customer. The customer was building several facilities across several plots of land. The plots contained different natural elevations and surrounding infrastructure (roads, road furniture).

Keeping with our vision of having everything on the cloud, we started developing an integration between InfraWorks, a leader in civil infrastructure design, and our cloud-based digital construction solution: BlackSmithSoft DC. Forge was the bridge we used to integrate the two systems.

The outcome was an integration that allowed our customer to:

  • Virtually place facilities on accurate GIS information brought in from InfraWorks.
  • Assess the existing conditions of the planned facilities with near “real-world” surroundings (most importantly the infrastructure and natural conditions).
  • Plan and digitally “rehearse” how the facilities will be built given the constraints of the infrastructure for transportation of materials and decide on the best locations to set up temporary laydown areas and offices.
  • Assess the view outside and around the facility.
  • Stay within the cloud of BlackSmithSoft DC or BlackSmithSoft AWP.

Below is a video demoing some of the possibilities of this integration. Most importantly it’s all on the cloud, fully connected to all the construction relevant data including the schedule, BoQs, costs, budgets, documents, and other mission-critical requirements.
